About My Teaching Approach
With over a decade of teaching and performing experience at the pre-collegiate, collegiate, and conservatory levels across the United States, I am delighted to be home with my family in Kansas City offering the finest quality in piano instruction as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (MTNA).
Whether you or your student are looking for beginner, intermediate, or advanced lessons, all of my piano training approaches are individually tailored to suit each student’s unique needs and specific goals.
The four key areas which all of my lessons address include: Technical Development, Comprehensive Musicianship Skills (Music Theory), Independent Practice Approahces, and Performance Proficiency.
After many years of working with students of all ages and abilities, I find that my personal goal for them is always the same: whether playing seriously or just for one’s own enjoyment, every student receives from me the necessary skills to take their playing anywhere they want it to go!
Former students of mine who have continued to pursue musical studies as majors or minors have gone on to study at: The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, New York University, U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Davis, U.C. Irvine, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
About My Lessons
Becoming a member of my piano studio community offers a structured and supportive environment for students of all ages, levels, and backgrounds to achieve their personal best. Based on the principle that students learn most effectively when working together in a nurturing and creatively engaged community of peers and parents, our work together includes:
-Customized weekly one-on-one lessons
-Regular group performance class and listening labs
-Quarterly group outings to the symphony or other musical community events
-Seasonal Formal Recitals
Students from throughout the greater Kansas City Area are welcome to opt for private in-person lessons at either my Lenexa KS Piano Studio, my Libery MO Community Studio at the William Jewell College.
In addition to private piano lessons, instruction is also offered and available in: music theory, musicianship skills, aural training, sight-singing, sight-reading, chamber music, collaborative piano playing (piano accompanying), and AP Music Theory Tutoring.
